Next-gen teachers, meeting IRL, and jazz on the beach

I salute you from Wynwood, Miami’s renown artsy neighborhood. Filled with graffiti walls and rainbow flags, it’s also home to where locals meet IRL - as I found out on @​house__of__wise's product launch.

Every single person there had met from Twitter. I predict this will become increasingly normal.

3 brain farts

🤸🏻‍♂️ Next-gen teachers: Content creators are quickly becoming the next generation of teachers. When everything to learn is online already, creators are the curators making information both educational and entertaining.

Teachers are competing against Netflix, Disney, TikTok influencers, and YouTube celebrities. Every class they’re fighting for students’ attention and interest.

And when attention is the most valuable currency, having a good digital diet is one of the most sustainably impactful lessons we can teach our students.

🧐 Prioritization: As complexities increase in software (and in life), a great skill is learning to prioritize. We do this innately based on two variables: urgency and severity.

Urgency is how fast the bug will hurt me or my product. Severity is how badly.

The biggest stress or bottlenecks occurs when we live in constant high urgency + high severity. This is when we’re continuously putting out fires, acting on-the-go and under pressure.

The opposite of that is when we live in low priority + low severity. This usually means we’re über-organized and likely not taking enough risks.

The most successful people live somewhere in between.

🕸 Nodes & Souls: One of the things I find most fascinating about learning to code is how software is constantly imitating how we operate in real life.

We’re all nodes in a network - individual servers sharing resources between one another. And because we’re all interconnected, the improvement of a node improves the network as a whole.

In a world with so many problems to tackle, it often feels overwhelming to try to fix them all, so we often stop trying.

However, we forget that every decision we make is in fact a vote towards the world we want to live in. As long as we keep improving our soul, we’ll keep improving our planet.

Problem: You’re always seeing cute spots in Instagram & TikTok, but when you actually get to that city, you forget all of them.

Solution: You share the post with Liist who “automagically” grabs the location and stores it in a map so you can easily find it back later.

I first discovered Liist because it was built by one my students. It’s now one of my favorite travel apps out there.
