Sinking cities, smart contracts, and Japanese bands

Hi nerds -

I salute you from Miami, a city meant to sink within the next 80 years, currently holding a real estate boom of over 20%.

Raising in prices, population, climate risk, and municipal finances, it's only a matter of time until the entire city infrastructure gets raised as well (like the building on the right corner).

🚀 Paralyzers and boosters: Fear is caused by uncertainty. That's why the more in-depth we study subjects, the riskier bets we're willing to make.

That's why getting to know our body, our feelings, and our brain means we start acting from abundance, rather than scarcity.

Fear acts as a paralyzer, a ceiling to our potential, while understanding acts as a life booster, a rocket to where we're meant to go.

👩🏻‍🏫 Scrum Schools: I'm convinced that many of the processes we use within software industry will permeate to other fields due to our ability to adapt fast and effectively to constant change.

Much like how coding bootcamps are structured today, I'm excited to see Scrum events + rituals implemented in curriculum design:

• Scrum planning: what students will learn.

• Scrum grooming: how students will learn it.

• Sprint backlog: the course objectives.

• Sprints: immersive spans of 1-4 weeks where students work on solving challenges, usually in teams, guided by teachers and mentors. Students will come across many iterations of these sprints within one course depending on the program's length.

• Daily stand ups: teachers provide a daily lecture introducing topics that students should keep in mind throughout the day. Students then meet within their teams to track the progress of everyone in the project.

• Scrum Retrospective: at the end of the sprint, everyone involved discusses what went right during the sprint, what could've gone better, and what actionable steps can we take to improve for next time.

📜 Smart contracts: Crypto coins and NFTs have put blockchain on the mainstream conversation in recent months. However, I'm increasingly convinced that smart contracts is where blockchain will shine the most.

​Smart contracts are secure, decentralized transactions set on a blockchain that, following a set of conditions, will run whatever we tell it. For ex, I buy an apartment and set up a smart contract establishing that, as soon as Alice transfers $10 over to my wallet, the legal ownership of the apartment is automatically transferred to her.

Now take that to government bureaucracy, financial services, or health-care procedures... Corruption levels decrease, services are made more efficient, and trust is reestablished within societies.​
