Adult camps, art investments, and a hedge

Thinking about your problems is how they grow

Hi nerds -

I salute you from Madrid, where this weekend I enjoyed my third pride parade of this year 🌈.

The more time I spend in Madrid, the more I realize it’s like Miami - in that they’re cities thriving as hedges against Latin American political instability.

The more complex the situation gets in Latin America, the more foreign investment these cities attract.

🏕️ Adult Camps: Adult Camps are like kids’ camps, except:

  • The nerds are the cool kids

  • The projects are real-world

  • We can drink beer

  • Workshops are designed with participants, not for them

  • Food is healthy

  • Campfires are social networking.

After attending a few crypto camps in the last few years, I’m joining forces with one of my best friends to launch our very own Adult Camp.

Set in the Panamanian mountains, this curated, weekend retreat is for the nerdiest professionals who want to exchange ideas with like-minded people, relax, and expand their network.

At 30%+ capacity within 48h of launch, this event is bound to be special!

🖼️ Art market: 7 lessons I’ve learned from Magnus Resch’s book on art collecting:

  • Buy pieces you love.

  • Only 1% of all art will resell in the secondary market,

  • 90% of auction pieces sell for less than $10,000.

  • Most superstar artists had shows at MOMA, MET, Whitney Museum, Guggenheim, or Art Institute of Chicago within their first 5 shows, typically before 35.

  • 92% of auctioned artists are male.

  • 5 auction results in the last 2 years is a good benchmark for liquidity.

  • While international galleries can be well-respected, NYC remains the art market epicenter. If you want the best, you can’t skip NYC.

✍🏼 When do strategy docs not suck: Some argue strategy docs are a waste of time.

I mostly tend to agree, unless they are:

  • Simple: they reshape complexity into something manageable and actionable.

  • Candid: they spotlight difficult truths concisely with grace.

  • Decisive: assertive with decisions, accepting their consequences.

  • Leveraged: strengths are magnified as sustainable competitive advantages.

  • Asymmetric: upside is likelier than downside.

  • Futuristic: solves for the long-term vision.

By one of my favorite Panamanian bands, the acoustics of this song makes me both want to sing aloud and relax after a stressful day.

Thank you for reading - always down to connecting over juicy ideas.
